Junior Dewi-Claire fired her back-to-back top two rounds of the season while freshman Belen Mozo and junior Paola Moreno joined her near the top of the leaderboard to guide the No. 11 USC women's golf team to a third-place finish after two rounds of the 2007 Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by the Arizona National G.C. in Tucson on Monday (Feb. 26).? ?
No. 2 Arizona State leads with a combined 577 and was followed by No. 4 Duke (588) and USC (590, 296-294).
Schreefel tied her season-low round of the year with a 72 in the first round. She opened it dubiously with triple bogey on her first hole, but remained focused and went 2-under the rest of the round. She then set her season low in the second round with a par 71 that featured four birdies. Schreefel's 143 (+1) has her tied for sixth.? ?
Moreno, owner of USC's lowest stroke average entering the tournament and USC's highest individually ranked player, maintained her consistent play with an opening round 73 and a second round 75 (148, +6).? ?
Mozo finished a mirror image of Moreno, posting a 75 and 73 to join Moreno in a tie for 14th.?
Senior Catalina Marin battled her way through a tough first round with a 78, but was only 1-over with two holes to play in the second round and finished with a 74 for a 152 (+10), tied for 33rd overall.? ?
Senior teammate Veronica Felibert opened with a 76 and closed with an 83 for a 159 (+17, tied for 58th).
Freshman Caroline Kim, playing as an individual, finished 62nd with a 161 (+19) after rounds of 77 and 84.
