Stanford Men's Diving Heads to Oklahma City For The 2007 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals

Stanford men's diving returns to action Thursday-Saturday, March 1-3 for the 2007 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals at the Oklahoma City Community College Pool. Eleven men's teams and 18 women's teams will be participating in the three-day competition. NCAA Championship qualifiers will be announced at the conclusion of Saturday's events.

*Stanford sophomore Dwight Dumais took the gold in the 1-meter event at the Pac-10 diving championships. He earned a total score of 357.95 to defeat Kenny Jenkins and Michael Hilde of USC who scored 350.75 and 339.65, respectively. Fellow Cardinal divers senior Kevin McLean and junior Nathan Kim came in fifth and sixth with scores of 297.25 and 294.40, respectively.
*Dumais earned his second medal in as many days, this time claiming third in the three-meter event at the Pac-10 Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash. Dumais trailed the top three entering the sixth and final round of dives but his final dive gave him a comfortable edge (346.95 to 324.45) on his teammate, McLean and a second trip to the awards podium this weekend. Stanford's Kim finished tied for second with a score of 310.05.
*McLean,Dumais and Kim placed fourth, fifth and seventh respectively in the platform finals. McClean tallied a total score of 337.10, with Dumais earning a 269.30, and Kim scoring 241.55. For the second time in as many days, Arizona State redshirt freshman Michele Benedetti would take home the top spot with a final score of 394.90.

*Cardinal freshman Dwight Dumais finished third in three-meter diving on Thursday at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championship in Oklahoma City. Dumais finished with 699.40 points. Joona Puhakka of Arizona State, the two-time NCAA champion and a two-time Olympian (2000, 2004) from Finland, won the event with 897.95 points. Sterling Richards of Utah finished second with 746.95 points. Stanford sophomore Nathan Kim finished 12th in a field of 18.
*Dumais continued his outstanding freshman season on Friday with a second place finish in one-meter diving at the NCAA Zone 'E' Championships. Dumais finished with 639.50 points. Arizona State's Joona Puhakka (2004 and 2000 Olympian from Finland), who won the one-meter and three-meter diving NCAA titles last year, won the competition with 842.10 points. Utah's Sterling Richards finished third with 636.35 points while Stanford's Kim was eleventh in a field of 18 with 543.00 points.
*Dumais qualified for the upcoming 2006 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship with his three day performance at the NCAA Zone 'E' Diving Championship. On Saturday, Dumais finished fourth in platform diving with 538.65 points. Mats Wiktorsson of Hawaii won the competition with 702.90 points. Stanford's Kim was sixth (529.65 points).
