BERKELEY - California men's diver Sam Helvie will represent the Golden Bears at the Zone E Diving Championships in Okalahoma City, Okla., on March 1-3. The event will be held at the Oklahoma Community College and hosted by the US Air Force Academy.
The sophomore wrapped up the Pac-10 season at the beginning of February in Federal Way, Wash., at the 2007 Pac-10 Diving Championships. Helvie posted a 322.40 in the finals of the three-meter springboard, after he was marked with a 339.20 in the preliminary round. He also competed in the one-meter springboard (277.60, seventh) and on the platform (215.25, eighth).
At the Dallas Morning News Invitational Helvie not only won both the one-meter (358.25) and posted his career-best of 381.15 on the three-meter, but he left the invitational as the highest scoring diver of the two-day event.
