Colorado No. 8 Seed For 2007 Big 12 Championship
BOULDER - Colorado has earned the No. 8 seed for the 2007 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship and will face No. 9 Texas Tech in a first round game on Tuesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. MST at the COX Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The winner of Tuesday's game will play No. 1 seed and co-Big 12 champion Texas A&M on Wednesday, March 7, at 11 a.m. MST.
Colorado, 12-16 overall, finished Big 12 play in a three-way tie for seventh place at 6-10 with the Lady Raiders and Texas. The Longhorns won the tiebreaker for the No. 7 seed and will play No. 10 Missouri in a first round game Tuesday at 5 p.m. MST.
Colorado is the No. 8 seed over Texas Tech by virtue of its 70-67 win over the Lady Raiders on Feb. 3 at the Coors Events/Conference Center.
First round games will be televised by the COX cable network. Fox Sports Net will televise rest of the tournament from the quarterfinals through the title game on Saturday, March 10. All of CU's games will be broadcast live by KKZN AM 760.
The Buffaloes will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak in Big 12 Championship play, and will try to do so with their best tournament seed in three years. CU was the No. 11 seed last year and the No. 12 seed in 2005. Colorado's six league wins in 2007 are one better than the the previous two years combined (3-13 in 2006 and 2-14 in 2005).
Colorado has been the No. 8 seed once before, in 1998, winning the first round game against No. 9 Oklahoma 71-66 before falling to No. 1 Texas Tech 81-51 the next night.
The Buffaloes, 7-9 all-time in the Big 12 Championship, are 0-2 against Texas Tech in league tournament play (quarterfinal games in 1998 and 2000).
