No. 15 Bruins Blank Huskies, 7-0

SEATTLE - The No. 15 UCLA women's tennis team turned in an impressive performance in its 2007 Pac-10 opener on Friday, shutting out Washington, 7-0 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. With the victory, the Bruins improve to 7-4 overall. The Huskies fall to 1-8 on the year.
UCLA took a 1-0 advantage into singles play, as the Bruins swept all three doubles matches. After a pair of 8-3 decisions at court Nos. 2 and 3, UCLA's Elizabeth Lumpkin and Alex McGoodwin completed the sweep with an 8-7(5) victory over Joyce Ardies/Mathilde Cor at court No. 1.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the match not long after singles play began, as freshman Stephanie Wetmore won her match when her opponent, Morgan Ramser, had to retire due to injury. Wetmore was leading 6-1, 1-0 at the time of Ramser's retirement.
UCLA went ahead 3-0 shortly thereafter, as Ashley Joelson lost just four games in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Tara Simpson at court No. 2. Freshman Yasmin Schnack clinched the match for the Bruins, registering a 6-2, 6-2 victory of her own over Cor at court No. 1.
Other straight-set winners for UCLA on Friday were McGoodwin (court No. 3), Lumpkin (court No. 4) and Anna-Viktoria Lind (court No. 5).
UCLA is in action again tomorrow, facing Washington State in Pullman at 1:00 p.m.
