Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 2/4 ASU Softball kicked-off the Wilson/DeMarini Tournament Friday, which saw ASU split the day's games rallying back to beat the North Florida Ospreys 12-9 after falling 8-7 to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. ASU is now 18-2 on the season with three games remaining in the weekend.

In the first game, Megan Elliott took the mound against the Gauchos, where ASU grabbed the lead early tacking on four runs in the first three innings before the Gauchos struck back in the fourth scoring five off of five hits and two Sun Devil errors and a grand slam from the designated player, Danielle Meyers.

The Gauchos put three more runs off three more hits in the fifth, which the Devils matched in a fifth-inning rally, which was capped with a two-run home run from Megan Elliott. The rally fell just short though as ASU fell 8-7 to the Gauchos in their first home loss of the season.

Game two saw Mindy Cowles start on the mound for the Devils, where she struggled against the Ospreys, allowing nine runs off of nine hits, eight earned before the Sun Devils offense came out swinging.

ASU had 10 hits on the game, with freshman, Ashley Muenz going 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs.  Fellow freshman, Megan Elliott also went deep in the fifth inning for her second home run of the night and third of the season. The Ospreys hung tough with the Devils until the fifth, when Megan Elliott came in to relieve Mindy Cowles, shutting down UNF and letting the ASU offense take control to take a 12-9 win.

The Wilson/DeMarini Tournament rolls on tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. as ASU now stands at 18-2 on the season with games against Houston and North Florida tomorrow. The Sun Devils will face Houston at 5:30 p.m. and North Florida at 7:30 p.m. All games will be held at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
