Benedetti Places Among Top Three in 1- and 3-Meter Finals at Zone-E Diving Championships

Entering day three of the 2007 NCAA Zone-E Diving Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., Arizona State University men's and women's diving team has enjoyed an excellent first two days of the event, led by sophomore Micky Benedetti, who has claimed top-three finishes in both 1-meter and 3-meter finals.


Benedetti, the 2006-07 Pacific-10 Conference 3-meter and platform diving champion, placed second in day one's 1-meter finals, totaling 686.10 points, after a trial round score of 350.05.  On day two, the Rome, Italy native placed third in the 3-meter finals, totaling 708.40 points, which followed a first-round score of 325.15.


Joining Benedetti for the men's team was sophomore Billy Sweeney, who finished ninth overall in the 3-meter finals, recording a total score of 652.90.  Sweeney also posted a 1-meter total of 542.25 on day one.


Senior Cassidy Farwell and sophomore Erin Hobbs competed for the Sun Devils' women's squad, as Farwell posted a total 3-meter score of 513.45, while Hobbs was the top 1-meter diver for the Sun Devil women, totaling 467.55 points on day two.


Both men and women will compete in the platform diving on day three and NCAA Championship qualifiers will be announced following the completion of the event.
