No. 23 UCLA Baseball Falls to No. 16 Ole Miss, 8-0

Oxford, Miss. - The No. 23 UCLA baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision at No. 16 Ole Miss Friday evening before 4,326 fans at Oxford-University Stadium. Sophomore shortstop Brandon Crawford delivered a 2-for-4 performance at the plate for the Bruins. Senior Tyson Brummett (3-2) was tagged with the loss.
Ole Miss right-hander Will Kline (3-0) allowed five hits in 6.2 scoreless innings, striking out eight and issuing two walks. The Rebels (12-4) jumped to a 7-0 lead through the first four innings. Leading 4-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Ole Miss shortstop Zack Cozart hit a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the home team a seven-run cushion. Ole Miss added another run in the seventh inning to open an 8-0 lead.
The Rebels got on the board early with two runs in the first inning and one in each of the second and third frames. With runners at second and third base in the first inning, right fielder Jordan Henry scored on a wild pitch. First baseman Andrew Clark plated second baseman Justin Henry on a groundout to the right side, first baseman to the pitcher.
Left fielder Fuller Smith led off Ole Miss' third inning with a walk and scored on a two-out single to center field by Jordan Henry. In the fourth inning, Clark singled to left with one out, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on designated hitter C.J. Ketchum's double to left-center field.
Brummett allowed seven runs off 11 hits in 6.0 innings as UCLA's starting pitcher. The right-hander from Salem, Utah, struck out five batters and allowed just one walk.
The Bruins and Rebels continue their three-game series Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (PT) and play the series finale Sunday at 10 a.m. (PT) at Oxford-University Stadium. Left-hander Tim Murphy will start for the Bruins on Saturday, and Ole Miss will send right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn to the mound.
Game Notes: Bruin shortstop Brandon Crawford recorded his team-leading eighth multi-hit game...UCLA catcher Brent Dean saw his first action as his Bruin when he record a pinch-hit single to left field in the top of the seventh...freshman left-hander Matt Drummond allowed one run off one hit and struck out two batters in the 2.0 innings of relief.
