California's Zsuzsanna Fodor Named Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA senior Zsuzsanna Fodor has been named the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Mar. 5-11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Fodor, a native of Budapest, Hungary, led the sixth-ranked Golden Bears to a pair of wins last week over No. 26 Oregon and Loyola Marymount. The 2006 Pac-10 Player of the Year, currently ranked 25th in the nation in singles did not drop a set in singles or doubles.
On Friday vs. the Ducks, Fodor crushed Oregon's No. 1 Dominika Dieskova, 6-0, 6-1 for Cal's first singles win of the day. Fodor and doubles partner Susie Babos also scored an 8-5 win at the No. 1 doubles spot over Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos. The match was Cal's Pac-10 opener.
On Sunday, Fodor handled 56th-ranked singles player Pavla Mesterova of LMU, 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles spot. Fodor and Babos, who are ranked third in the nation in doubles, won their doubles match, 8-6, over Mesterova and Robyn Baker. Fodor and Babos are 26-5 overall in doubles this year.
This week California (11-3, 1-0) hosts No. 39 TCU on March 17.
This is the third career Player of the Week award for Fodor, including the automatic award for winning the Pac-10 Championships last year. It is the fifth all-time award for California.
