PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State Men's Basketball Head Coach Tony Bennett received another coaching accolade as he was named Sporting News Coach of the Year, March 12.

The honor comes a week after Bennett was named Pacific-10 Conference, United States Basketball Writers Association District 9, National Association of Basketball Coaches District 14, Pacific-10 and Basketball Times National Coach of the Year.

Bennett has led the Cougars to 25 wins this season, tied for the second most in school history and one shy of the WSU record set in 1940-41. The Cougars will face Oral Roberts Thursday, March 15, in their first NCAA Tournament in 13 years.

Sporting News also announced that Texas freshman Kevin Durant was named the Freshman and Player of the Year, becoming the first player to be named both simultaneously.
