Buffs Prep for Scrimmage Saturday

Mar 15, 2007

BOULDER-The University of Colorado football team held its third practice of the spring Thursday afternoon in preparation for the first day in pads, scheduled for Saturday.

A day before departed senior place kicker Mason Crosby is set to participate in Pro Timing Day, head coach Dan Hawkins was asked how he thought senior place kicker Kevin Eberhart could make kicks in pressure situations.

"He did pretty good right there," Hawkins said, referring to Eberhart's 45-yard field goal to end practice, which kept the team from running. "You just have to keep heaping things on him. We'll find out more as we get into scrimmages. He's been around here for so long and seen so many situations with Mason."

Hawkins has also been impressed with junior college transfer Drew Hudgins, a defensive end.

"He's done a nice job." Hawkins said. "He can run. He's very active and that showed up a couple times today. It's hard for all those linemen when you have no pads to really do a lot, but you can tell he has a good motor."

Saturday Scrimmage Notes: The team will "scrimmage" on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. in the stadium. Hawkins said it will be more of a live practice than a real scrimmage. "Without a lot of linemen we can't go out of the gates and do a 65-play scrimmage," he said. "In the long run it might be better; you just don't beat each other up." The scrimmage is open to the public and should last until about noon.
