Men's Tennis Taken Down By No. 8 UCLA

March 17, 2007

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Men's Tennis team found themselves overwhelmed Saturday afternoon as they fell 7-0 to the eighth-ranked UCLA Bruins at the ASU Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils are now 8-6 overall with the Desert Cup coming up next weekend.

In doubles the Sun Devils were unable to top the Bruins as T.J. Bellama and Murilo Souza pushed a tough match in the three spot just barely falling 8-7(3) to Mathieiu Dehaine and Jeremy Drean.

The Bruins came out swinging in singles as well, sweeping the Devils, all in straight sets. Freshman Matt Brooklyn fell 6-2 in the first set, but battled back hard in the second which just slipped away as Haythem Abid grabbed the second set 7-5.

Next up the Devils host the Desert Cup, where they will have tea and food served on the Thunderbird Terrace on Saturday, March 24 at high noon at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe. The Devils will take on in-state rivals Arizona during the Desert Cup. For more information on tickets please visit the Sun Devil Men's Tennis home page and click on The Desert Cup sidebar link.
