No. 17 Arizona State Shuts Out No. 19 USC, 10-0, In Pac-10 Opener

LOS ANGELES - Josh Satow threw a complete game six-hitter Friday as the No. 17 Arizona State Sun Devils shut out the host No. 19 USC Trojans, 10-0, at Dedeaux Field in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both teams. Arizona State (20-7, 1-0) scored two runs in each of the first four innings as part of a 15-hit evening.
Satow walked four batters and struck out six to improve to 7-1 on the season. ASU roughed up USC starter Ryan Cook (3-1), who lasted only two innings and gave up six runs on seven hits. The Trojans fall to 16-11 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
Brett Wallace went 3-for-5 for the Sun Devils, including his eighth home run of the season. Petey Paramore also homered, hitting his third of the year with a two-run homer in the fourth. Every member of the Sun Devils' starting lineup recorded at least one hit in the game.
Eric Sogard and Tim Smith hit back-to-back singles in the first for ASU with Ike Davis drawing the first run with a single to center. Paramore was hit by a Cook pitch to load the bases and Matt Spencer used an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead. Wallace hit his two-run homer in the second for the 4-0 advantage to spark the victory.
The series continues tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start for Sunday's series finale. Both games will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
