No. 5 Cal Shuts Out Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii - The No. 5 California women's tennis team followed its win over No. 9 Northwestern with a sweep against Hawaii, 6-0, Sunday afternoon in the Aloha Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex.

Cal (15-3) won all six singles matches in straight sets, with only one Golden Bear losing more than two games in a set. The doubles matches were cancelled shortly after they started due to rain.

No. 17 Nina Henkel picked up a win on the No. 1 court, as she took down Sophie Kobuch, 6-0, 6-3. Henkel stayed red hot as the freshman has now won her last 11 out of 12 singles matches.

Juniors Stephanie Kusano, Cristina Visico and Marion Ravelojaona each won their singles matches by the score of 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Claire Ilcinkas shut out Julia Sandborn, 6-0, 6-0. Fellow sophomore Bojana Bobusic handled Florence Wasko, 6-0, 6-1.

The Bears return to Berkeley next weekend to continue Pac-10 play. Cal will host Arizona State on Friday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. The next day, Cal hosts Arizona at 12 p.m. The Bears are currently 1-0 in the Pac-10, with a victory over Oregon on March 9.
