UCLA Golf Teams Capture Top 10 Honors

The UCLA men's golf Gold and Blue Teams each placed in the Top 10 of their respective tournaments on Tuesday.

The Blue Team captured second place at the second Cal State Bakersfield Spring Invitational at the Bakersfield Country Club and the Gold Team tied for sixth place at the Oregon Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club.

High winds, rain and hail elevated scores in Bakersfield as the Blue Team posted a final round score of 305 (+17) to finish with a 54-hole total of 878 (+14). The Bruins finished one shot behind Cal State Bakersfield and one shot in front of Cal State San Bernardino. Fresno State posted a team score of 299 (+11) to finish fourth at 885 (+21) and Point Loma Nazarene finished fifth at 888 (+24).

At the Oregon Duck Invitational, the the Gold Team posted a final round score of 300 (+12) and tied for sixth place with Washington at 887 (+23). USC won the event with a 54-hole score of 868 (+4), followed by Oregon State at 874 (+10). Arizona and Oregon tied for third at 875 (+11) and Stanford made a late charge to climb to fifth place with a final round score of 283 (-5) and finish at 880 (+16).

For the Gold Team, junior Kevin Chappell tied for first place at two-under par 214 after posting a final round score of 72 (E). USC's Jamie Lovemark and Washington's Alex Prugh also finished at 214. The victory was the third of Chappell's career and his second this season.

Junior Daniel Im tied for 27th at 224 (+8) after carding a final round score of 76 (+4). Sophomore James Lee tied for 38th at 227 (+11) after posting a score of 77 (+5) on Tuesday. Sophomore Lucas Lee and junior Craig Leslie tied for 44th at 229 (+13), and sophomore Erik Flores tied for 59th at 235 (+19).

The Oregon event was a six, count four format.

For the Blue Team, freshman Charlie Harris recorded his best collegiate finish, tying for second place at two-under par 214 following a final round 74 (+2). Teammate Jason Kang tied for fourth at 217 (+1) after carding a 77 (+5) on Tuesday. Senior Chris Heintz tied for 13th at 223 (+7) and junior Brandon Christianson tied for 16th at 224 (+8).
