PAC-10 NOTES

• ARIZONA (21-6, 0-0): Arizona went 5-0 last week, defeating Morehead State in Tucson on Tuesday and Wednesday before sweeping a home three-game series against Northern Colorado over the weekend ... Arizona's two wins in the twin-bill on Saturday were the 999th and 1,000th all-time for the program at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium ... Arizona has won seven straight contests dating back to March 11. Arizona opened the season with a season-high nine straight wins ... Including 5-4 and 7-6 wins against Morehead State last week, the Wildcats are 6-0 this season in one-run games ... Including the non-league games against Arizona State at Chase Field on Wednesday, Arizona has only four non-conference games left on its schedule (ASU on March 28 and Liberty May 4-6) ... Last year the Wildcats had a 13-14 overall record 27 games into the season.

• ARIZONA STATE (21-8 2-1): Sophomore first baseman Brett Wallace has been named a College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll Player of the Week. Wallace becomes the fifth Sun Devil honored so far in 2007, joining Matt Spencer, Petey Paramore, Brian Flores and Kiel Roling ... Junior Josh Satow threw a complete game shut out in the Pac-10 opener at USC, striking out six and allowing only six hits in ASU's 10-0 win over USC at Dedeaux Field on Friday night in the Sun Devils Pac-10 opener ... It was Satow's second complete game of the year, and the first shut out for the Sun Devils since they beat Ohio State 3-0 on March 6, 2005 ... Satow is the first ASU pitcher since Erik Averill to throw a complete game shut out. Averill accomplished the feat in February 4, 2005 in a 12-0 win over New Mexico ... With the win, Pat Murphy recorded his 500th victory as head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils.

• CALIFORNIA (14-13, 0-0): Despite a phenomenal pitching performance from sophomore right-hander Tyson Ross, in which he had a career-high 16 strikeouts and yielded just three hits in 7.0 innings Mar. 22 versus Oral Roberts, the Cal baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Golden Eagles. Ross, whose only hits of the game off him came in the second inning when Oral Roberts scored two runs, went on to strikeout 11 more batters to finish with 16 strikeouts in 7.0 innings with three hits, two runs, and only one walk ... Ross was three short of the Cal school record of 19 strikeouts set by Larry Colton on Apr. 10, 1963 at UC Santa Barbara ... Ross had tied his career-high of 10 strikeouts in only four innings, and even had four strikeouts in the sixth inning when a Golden Eagle batter had reached on a strikeout/wild pitch. He now is 2-4 on the year with a 2.18 ERA, and has 63 strikeouts in 57.2 innings ... Cal has won seven of its last 10 games; winning two of three at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky., winning at UC Davis, and winning two of three over Rhode Island and Oral Roberts ... Of the Bears' 13 losses this season, eight have been by one run.

• OREGON STATE (23-3, 0-0): Oregon State's current 12-game winning streak is the Beavers' longest since another 12-game streak in 1997-98; that streak covered the final 8 games of the 1997 season and the first 3 of the 1998 season. The last time the Beavers had as long a win streak within one season was in 1986, when they won 15 straight ... In 2006, Kevin Gunderson had 20 of Oregon State's 21 saves, leading the nation in that category as the Beavers won the national championship. This season, OSU has already had 3 different players earn saves as Eddie Kunz has 4, Mark Grbavac 2 and Blake Keitzman 1 ... One big question that may followers of college baseball had about Oregon State in 2007 was how the Beavers' pitching staff would perform after losing several standouts from the 2006 national championship team. Through 25 games, OSU has allowed 3 or fewer runs 17 times, including each of the Beavers' last 8 games. In fact, in the last 8 games, OSU hasn't allowed its opponents more than 2 runs; that's the longest such streak in school history, topping a 7-game stretch in 1990 in which OSU didn't allow more than 2 runs in a game.

• STANFORD (12-9, 0-0): Junior Nolan Gallagher pitched his first career complete game shutout with a four-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Sacramento State on Sunday, striking out a career-high-tying and season-high seven batters without a walk as he also became the first Stanford pitcher to throw a complete game in 2007 ... Leading the offensive front for the Cardinal is junior Adam Sorgi. He hit .500 (4-8) with a double and three RBI in the two-game series against Sacramento State, while fielding all nine of his defensive chances without an error ... Sorgi was 2-for-3 with a double in the opener before leading the Cardinal to a 10-0 victory in the second game of the series by going 2-for-5 with a season-high-tying three RBI.

• UCLA (10-14, 0-0): The Bruins begin the Pac-10 Conference portion of their schedule when they open a three-game series at Stanford this weekend. Last season, UCLA recorded a 13-10 conference record and finished third in the Pac-10 ... UCLA enters this weekend's series at Stanford riding a two-game win streak. The Bruins took the final two of three games from Pacific in Los Angeles last weekend (March 24-26) thanks to some timely hitting ... UCLA hit at a .340 clip against the visiting Tigers and tallied five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 26 runs scored ... Four players recorded batting averages above .400 while totaling 11 or more at-bats ... The Bruins made school history in Sunday afternoon's comeback victory. Trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, UCLA posted a school-record 14-run inning to defeat Pacific, 15-8 ... Sophomore Cody Decker initiated the Bruins' late heroics with a grand slam and finished the day 2-for-5 at the plate with a career-high five RBI ... UCLA baseball teams had previously scored 13 runs in one inning - versus Winthrop earlier this season (Feb. 4) and against Arizona State on Feb. 28, 1997.

• USC (17-12, 1-2): The Trojans continue the regular season with a nonconference game on Tuesday at UC Riverside (16-9) ... The last time the Trojans met the Highlanders, UC Riverside defeated USC, 4-1, but USC leads the all-time series by a 16-6 margin ... After Tuesday's game, the Trojans will not play again until a Pac-10 road series against defending national champion Oregon State (April 5-7) ... Not only was the March 14th game against Portland the 1,000th game at Dedeaux Field, it was also the quickest game in the last 10 years as USC and Portland played a game clocked at one hour and 58 minutes ... In Baseball America's annual list of the Top 100 College Prospects, two Trojans earned recognition. Senior right-hander Paul Koss is rated at No. 54 while junior infielder Matt Cusick is ranked No. 80 ... Koss is second on USC's all-time saves list with 31 career saves. Jack Krawczyk (1995-98) holds the USC career record with 49 saves (his NCAA mark is currently in danger by UC Irvine's Blair Erickson) ... For his 2007 junior season, Cusick moved back to second base after playing at third last season. He was named to the 2007 Wallace Watch by the College Baseball Foundation ... This season, Cusick is batting .337 (31-for-92) with 16 RBI and eight stolen bases.

• WASHINGTON (14-9, 3-0): The Washington baseball team returns home to Seattle after five straight road games last week ... The Huskies had their nine-game winning streak snapped last week at Gonzaga, but have still won 12 of their last 13 games ... This weekend, the Huskies play host to Arizona State (21-8, 2-1) in a three-game series at Husky Ballpark ... The Huskies have won 12 of their last 13 games since opening the season 2-8 ... Over those 13 games, Washington is batting .323 while holding opponents to a .227 average ... The Huskies have outscored their opponents 89-42 over that stretch and have a team ERA of 2.47 ... Since moving to the bullpen after two starts, junior LHP Nick Hagadone has gone 2-0 with five saves and a 0.00 ERA in eight appearances. He has thrown 16.2 innings out of the bullpen this season, allowing eight hits, one run (unearned) and three walks while striking out 20 ... Junior RHP Brandon McKerney's return from injury has gone smoothly. In four relief appearances, he's pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, no runs and one walk while striking out two.

• WASHINGTON STATE (13-10, 0-3): The Cougars conclude their longest home stand of the season this week by hosting BYU in a two-game series at Bailey-Brayton Field, Tuesday and Wednesday. Including the BYU series, WSU has played 11 of its last 12 games at home, with the lone away appearance at Gonzaga ... Junior shortstop Paul Gran continues to swing the hottest bat in the cougar lineup. Over the past nine games Gran has raised his season batting average from .214 to a season-high .316. He is hitting .382 (13-34) in that stretch with three triples and 10 RBIs ... Junior first baseman Jim Murphy continues to climb the WSU career putouts list. In less than 2 1/2 years Murphy has moved into second place all-time with 1,174 putouts. He needs 124 more to tie former Cougar Kevin Brunstad (1,298) for the top spot.
