BERKELEY - Six women's gymnastics teams and nine individuals have been selected to compete at the NCAA West Regional at Haas Pavilion on April 14 at 6 p.m. (PT), the NCAA announced on Monday. Out of the 18 seeded teams overall, the West Regional will host three of them.

The six teams participating in the NCAA West Regional are Nebraska, Utah, Missouri, Washington, Sacramento State and the California Golden Bears. Five all around competitors and four individual event specialists will also compete in the event.

The five all arounder competitors will include Veronica Porte and Alise Blackwell of San Jose State, Debra Huss and Sarah Sullivan of Seattle Pacific and DeAvera Todd of Boise State. The individual event specialists are as follows: UC Davis' Tanya Ho on the vault, Yvette Leizorek of Boise State on the bars, Kristin Aldrich of Boise State on the beam and UC Davis' Andi Dolinsky on the floor.

'This will be one of the biggest collegiate gymnastics events in Bay Area history,' California's head coach Cari DuBois said. 'We are really excited to be hosting the best collegiate gymnasts at this site. Nebraska, Utah and Missouri have such a rich tradition of women's gymnastics, then you also have west coast powerhouse like Washington and Sacramento State.'

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28, hosted by the University of Utah.

In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The last time Cal hosted the NCAA West Regional was in 1992, as Pam Burgess' team finished third overall with its score of 192.10, advancing as a team for the only time in school history to the NCAA Championship. The Bears finished eighth out of 12 teams at the NCAA Championships and Kristen Smyth earned three individual All-American honors at the event.

'I am so proud of this team,' DuBois said. 'We have come such a far way, from two years ago when we couldn't even field a full roster to my deepest and talented teams I have had since being at Cal. We are excited to have the opportunity to compete at the West Regional on our home court against some of the best teams in the nation.'

Cal has advanced to the NCAA Regional 16 times as a team and six times with individuals. The latest time the Bears went as a team was in 2004, when DuBois' squad finished fifth overall at the West Regional in Corvallis, Ore.
