This Week - The 41st ranked Washington State Cougars (12-8, 1-4 Pac-10) prepare for three-matches against a trio of California schools...WSU faces nonconference opponent Santa Clara (5-7, 2-4 WCC), Thursday April 4, at 9:30 a.m...the Cougars return to Pac-10 action, Friday, April 6, for a contest against No. 1 Stanford (15-1, 3-0 Pac-10) at 1:30 p.m...WSU closes out the weekend when it squares off with No. 5 California (17-3, 3-0 Pac-10), Saturday April 5, at noon.
Series with the Broncos - The Cougars hold a 4-1 all-time advantage against Santa Clara...WSU cruised past the Broncos in last year's meeting, 7-0...under WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart the Cougars are a perfect 2-0...lone win for Santa Clara occurred during the 1982 season when the Broncos knocked off the Cougars, 7-2.
Series with the Cardinal - The Stanford Cardinal posts a perfect 13-0 record against the Cougars...in the last three meetings Stanford was ranked No. 1...last nine meetings Stanford was ranked in the top 10...During the 2005-06 season Stanford eased past WSU, 7-0.
Series with the Bears - The California Bears hold a 9-1 record in the all-time series over WSU...last year the Bears clawed past WSU, 7-0...lone win for the Cougars came March 29, 2002 when California was ranked No. 20...WSU defeated the No. 20 Bears, 5-2, which is the highest ranked opponent WSU has defeated in school history.
Double Trouble - Doubles tandem Marjolein van de Ven and Ekaterina Burduli captured their 11th victory of the season against Boise State's top doubles duo Baurn/Mackova, 8-4...WSU's top doubles team now has 21 career victories, which is good enough for sole possession of eighth place on WSU's all-time doubles victories.
20/20 - For the second consecutive season, Marjolein van de Ven captured her 20th victory of the season after defeating Nicole Briceno of Alabama, 7-6, 6-2...van de Ven defeated Boise State's Jana Mackova, 6-3, 6-4, to improve to a 22-9 record ...last season van de Ven earned 24 victories and looks to improve on her previous mark with six dual matches, the Pac-10 Tournament and possibly the NCAA Championships remaining in the schedule.
Hart of the Matter - WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart and her Cougars have defeated fourth ranked opponents this season culminated by a 5-2 defeat over No. 23 Oregon...Hart and the Cougars will have two more chances to earn victories over ranked opponents with matches against Stanford (No. 1) and California (No. 5)...during her four-year tenure as the head coach of Cougar Tennis, Hart has humbled 12 nationally-ranked teams.
Great Toth - Senior Amy Toth captured a victory over Oregon's Anna Cecilia Olivos, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, increasing her career wins mark to 74, which ties her for fifth with Narelle Hall on WSU's career victory list...Toth currently has a record of 16-14 and looks to inch up the record books as two more wins places her fourth on the wins list.
