Sun Devils' 1996 Win Over No. 1 Nebraska to be Shown as FSN Arizona's Greatest Game

April 5, 2007

Just two days before Pat's Run takes place in Tempe to celebrate his legacy and raise awareness for the Pat Tillman Foundation, Fox Sports Net Arizona has announced the viewer's pick for the top game ever televised on its air and it's a game in which Tillman will also forever be remembered for.

To commemorate FSN Arizona's 10-year anniversary, the network let it viewers vote for the 10 greatest games ever televised by FSNAZ during its time on the air. After the votes were counted, the game that was selected as No. 1 is the ArizonaState football team's historic 19-0 defeat of top-ranked Nebraska on Sept. 21, 1996. Now, FSN Arizona will replay the game on Thursday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m.

The two-time defending national champion Cornhuskers came into Tempe with a 26-game winning streak and left Sun Devil Stadium with their first regular season shutout loss since 1973. With 1:39 left in the game, Nebraska reached the ASU 26-yard line and behind Ahman Green appeared to be ready to at least end the shutout with an eight-play drive. However, Green fumbled, Tillman recovered and helped the Devils shut out the No. 1 team in the land for the only time in the past 30 seasons. The historic win would set the wheels in motion for ASU's undefeated regular season and a 1997 Rose Bowl appearance.

The third annual Pat's Run will be held this Saturday, April 7, at Sun Devil Stadium and already close to 10,000 runners and walkers have registered. The event raises funds for the Pat Tillman Foundation, a nonprofit organization that carries forward Tillman's legacy through leadership programs at ArizonaStateUniversity and six Arizona high schools.
