Matt Gentry Wins Canadian National Championship

Stanford, Calif. - Former Stanford wrestler and current Volunteer Assistant Coach Matt Gentry claimed his second consecutive Canadian National Championship on March 31.The 2004 NCAA Champion went 4-0 and defeated Dean DeHamel, 3-0, in the championship bout on his way to the title.

Gentry, a dual citizen with the United States and Canada, earned the right to compete in the Pan Am Games in Brazil this July and the Senior World Championships this September in Azerbaijan. His win at Canadian Nationals also earned him the right to sit on top of the ?qualifying ladder next year, and other qualifiers will ?compete for the right to challenge him for the Olympic spot.

After capturing the Canadian National Championship last year, Gentry took fifth at the Pan Am Games.
