No. 8 Oregon State Takes Rubber Game Over Stanford, 8-6

Stanford, Calif. - No. 8 Oregon State (34-9, 6-6 Pac-10) held off a late comeback bid by Stanford (18-23, 3-12 Pac-10) in the rubber game of a three-game Pac-10 series at Sunken Diamond on Sunday. Stanford trailed 8-3 after six and a half innings but scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames to get the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning twice before Eddie Kunz finally shut the door by getting Randy Molina to ground out to Beaver second baseman Joey Wong to end the game.
Oregon State starter Jorge Reyes (3-0) earned the victory by limiting the Cardinal to a three-run bottom of the first inning before blanking Stanford for the remainder of his 6.0 inning outing. Reyes allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four. Kunz (0.2 IP, 2 H) picked up his ninth save of the campaign.
The Beavers had home runs in the contest from Jason Ogata (3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI), Mike Lissman (3-4, HR, RBI) and Darwin Barney (2-4, HR, 3 RBI).
Adam Sorgi (3-4, 2 RBI) and Molina (3-5, RBI) each had three-hit games for the Cardinal with Molina's three hits a season-best. Michael Taylor (2-5, 2B, RBI) and Toby Gerhart (2-5, 2B) added two hits apiece for Stanford.
Stanford starter Erik Davis (2-1) took the loss in the first Pac-10 start of his career, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts in a 4.1 inning outing that was his longest of the campaign.Stanford will conclude a six-game homestand by hosting Santa Clara at Sunken Diamond on Tuesday, May 1 (6 pm, PT).
