IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally and sophomore Monica Milewski were named Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year and All-Big 12 singles, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Kenneally led the Buffaloes to a five-win improvement in conference action, as CU finished tied for third in the Big 12 with a 9-2 record. It was the highest placement for Colorado since they were second in 1999.
The Buffaloes' 16 overall wins and nine in league play are their most since the 1999 season.
"I think there are a lot coaches in our conference that have done a good job this year," Kenneally said. "I feel very humbled that my peers have selected me; having played against a lot of the coaches that are still coaching and now are coaching with them as always been an exciting thing. Also receiving this recognition from them is something special."
Milewski earns her first post-season conference honor and was one of three women that were selected unanimously. She was the only woman to earn a pair of Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors outright (Feb. 26-Mar. 4, Mar. 2-8).
Milewski won 25 singles matches during 2006-07 year with 16 of those coming at No. 1 singles and in dual play.
The Park Ridge, Ill. native won eight singles matches against the conference and clinched three Big 12 victories.
