Barnhart Named to National Team Roster for Match Against Canada
May 11, 2007
Stanford, Calif. - Former Stanford standout and current Volunteer Assistant Coach Nicole Barnhart was one of two goalkeepers named to the U.S. National Team roster for the squad's match against Canada this weekend.
Barnhart, who has three caps for the U.S., will join the other members of the 18-player roster, playing at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, tomorrow as the USA continues the stretch run to the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. The match will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
Barnhart, a three-time collegiate All-American, became the first Cardinal to play in goal for the U.S. two years ago and has since earned three caps for the USA, shutting out both France and Ukraine in 2005.
Following the Canada match, the USA will embark on a six-game 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup Send-Off Series, starting against China on June 16 in Cleveland and continuing against Brazil on June 23 in East Rutherford, N.J. in a re-match of the 2004 Olympic gold medal game. The USA will then play on July 14 against Norway in East Hartford, Conn., before facing Japan on July 28 in San Jose, Calif. The U.S. women hit the stretch run with a game on Aug. 12 against New Zealand in Chicago, Ill., before playing the Send-Off match in Carson, Calif., at The Home Depot Center against Finland on Aug. 25. Of the USA's six Send-Off Series opponents, only Finland will not compete in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.
