Eleven Former, Current and Future Bruins Competing in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying

Eleven former, current and future Bruins are competing nationwide Mon., June 4 for a chance to play in the 107th U.S. Open, June 14-17 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
The list features 1995 U.S. Open winner Corey Pavin, who lettered at UCLA from 1979-82, and also includes incoming freshman Philip Francis, the nation's top-ranked junior golfer.
Current UCLA players vying for spots are juniors Kevin Chappell and Daniel Im, and sophomore Erik Flores. Chappell, who recently tied for 20th at the NCAA Championship on Saturday, will attempt to qualify at Rockville, MD. Im will be trying to make the cut in Columbus, OH.
Flores is one of four players with UCLA connections attempting to qualify at Murieta, Calif. The others include former All-American Steve Conway (2001-04), teaching professional Roger Gunn (1983-85) and incoming freshman Connor Driscoll.
Pavin, whose exemption expired in 2005, will attempt to gain entry near his Texas residence in Dallas.
In Memphis, TN, four other Bruins will attempt to qualify: Jay Delsing (1980-83), Francis, John Merrick (2001-04) and Duffy Waldorf (1981-82, 1984-85).
Tom Pernice (1978-81) is exempt from qualifying after finishing among the Top 30 money winners on the PGA Tour in 2006.
