Julia Smit Off To Fast Start In Pan Am Games

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Julia Smit got off to a fast start in her first action of the 2007 Pan American Games on Tuesday when she clocked a personal-best time of 1:02.33 in the 100 meter back to become the fastest qualifier in three heats of the event. Smit swam in the second heat.

Smit's performance moves here into the semifinals of the event to be held Wednesday. The finals are scheduled for Thursday.

Smit is also scheduled to compete in the 200 meter individual medley and 200 meter back beginning on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
