Volleyball Falls to Texas A&M
Sept. 1, 2007
BOZEMAN, Mont. - Two undefeated teams met Saturday morning at Shroyer Gym in the Montana State Holiday Inn Classic tournament but unfortunately it was the Washington State Cougars volleyball team that recorded its first loss of the season as Texas A&M won 30-28, 30-18, 30-20.
WSU, 6-1, was led by the nine kills of Jackie Albright and Brittany Johnson, and Kelly Hyder contributed 22 digs. Tara West and Johnson each had three blocks. Maureen Perez had 30 assists and two aces.
TAMU moved to 5-0 and the Aggies's Sarah Ammerman had 18 kills as Jillian Phillips added 11 kills (.714) and a match-high five blocks. May Batis had 12 digs and Kristen Schevikoven had 45 assists.
The Aggies hit .298 as a team and held WSU to .144.
'We did a great job at the service line all morning long,' WSU Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. 'We played fairly even with them in game one and really did a nice job not only serving but serving and passing and kept ourselves in system. In game two the wheels came off a little bit and our serve-receive broke down and created some easy scoring opportunities for Texas A&M in games two and three.'
The Cougars play Utah State Saturday night to compete their participation in the Montana State Holiday Inn Classic at Bozeman.
