Cougar Volleyball Travels to Reno for Three-Match Tourney

COUGARS ARE ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Washington State volleyball team, 7-1, travels to the Biggest Little City in the World, Reno, Nevada, for the Nevada AT&T Invitational tournament...WSU takes on Hofstra (5-1) Friday night, Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m....Saturday, Sept. 8, the Cougs will meet UNLV (5-1) at 10 a.m. and host Nevada (2-2) at 7 p.m...all matches will be played in the Virginia Street Gym on the Nevada campus.
COUGS SECOND AT MSU HOLIDAY INN CLASSIC: WSU was 2-1 at the Montana State tournament last weekend, taking 3-0 wins over Montana State (30-23, 30-28, 30-28) and Utah State (30-26, 30-23, 30-23), but losing 3-0 to Texas A&M (30-28, 30-18, 30-20)...Maureen Perez (11.44 apg) and Brittany Johnson (3.56 kpg, 1.11 bpg) were named to the seven-player all-tournament team...Jackie Albright also contributed 34 kills (3.78 kpg) and 2.11 dpg) while Kelly Hyder had 39 digs (4.33 dpg)...WSU had 3.06 blocks per game as a team.
COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Brian Heffernan returns for his fourth season at WSU (34-66)...Ken Ko, associate head coach (third year) is joined by assistant coach Gretchen Killebrew (first year)...Mark Killebrew is the coordinator of volleyball operations (first year)...Edgard da Gama e Silva Filho (Dega) is a volunteer coach.

ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE FOR COUGS: The CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll for Sept. 3 shows five of Washington State's 2007 Pac-10 opponents ranked in the top 15: 2006 national runners-up Stanford at No. 2, No. 4 USC, No. 5 UCLA, No. 8 Washington, and No. 15 California...Ohio, a non-conference opponent WSU will face Sept. 14 in Denver is ranked No. 13...also receiving votes are Texas A&M (No. 29), Oregon (No. 320, and Long Beach State (No. 37)...the coaches poll link is www.avca.org.
