No. 15 Cal Blanks Cal State Bakersfield, 3-0

MORAGA, Calif. - No. 15 California posted its third consecutive shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Friday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium on the first day of the Saint Mary's Fall Soccer Classic. The Golden Bears improved to 3-0, while the Roadrunners fell to 0-3.
Senior forward Stephanie Wieger gave Cal a 1-0 lead with a header off a Laurie Gartrell free kick in the 17th minute. The goal was Wieger's first of the season, 12th of her career and held up to be her fifth career game-winning goal.
Redshirt sophomore forward Torrey Delaplane extended the Bears' advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 52nd minute. Delaplane netted her first career goal by one-timing a cross from Katherine Daiss inside the right post.
Senior midfielder Caroline Lea converted a 20-yard shot in the 75th minute for the final score of the game. The goal was Lea's first of the season and sixth of her career.
Cal held a 13-0 shot advantage and 23 of 26 players saw action for the Bears. Daiss paced her team with three shots.
Freshman Jorden Kussmann earned the starting nod in goal for Cal for her first collegiate action. Redshirt sophomore Rosie Aguilera, redshirt freshman Jessica Mazura and freshman Jacqui Liu also saw their first action in a Bears' uniform.
Cal returns to action against Vermont Sunday, Sept. 9, at noon on the final day of Saint Mary's tournament.
