USC Women Host Exhibition Game Against U.S. National Team
Sept. 7, 2007
Tina Thompson and Lisa Leslie have shared plenty of court time together as members of the United States Olympic Team, but the pair were teamed up long before as USC Trojans who helped form a successful foundation for the USC women's basketball program. Both also have been cornerstone members of the U.S. National Team, which has recently announced a stop at USC's Galen Center for its 2007 College Tour. The 2007-08 Women of Troy are lined up to face the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team at 7 p.m. on November 13 at the Galen Center. The game will mark a homecoming for two Southern California natives on the roster, Tina Thompson (Los Angeles) and Diana Taurasi (Chino).
Former Trojan Lisa Leslie is not listed on the U.S. roster for the eight-game College Tour, but the Los Angeles Sparks star and three-time Olympic gold medalist may well be on-hand for the Galen Center event. After all, it has been 13 years since Leslie and Thompson were Trojans together - when Leslie was a senior and Thompson a freshman on the 1993-94 USC squad that was the Pac-10 champion.
'We're looking forward to it,' USC head coach Mark Trakh said. 'We're hoping to welcome home Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson, and it's also a great opportunity to have our kids play against the best players in the world. It will be a great barometer for our team, as well as a fantastic showcase for women's basketball in Los Angeles.'
The 12-player College Tour Team will include various members of the 2007-08 USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team - a roster of 22 available players including Southern California Olympians Thompson and Taurasi and the Los Angeles Sparks' Taj McWilliams-Franklin.
