Sept. 8, 2007

OREM, Utah - The Sun Devil Volleyball team stormed back into action today as they went a perfect 2-0 to wrap up the UVSC Invitational with a perfect sweep of WeberState and a 3-2 win over host UtahValleyState. Both Marina Mercer and Sydney Donahue were selected to the All-Tournament Team as ASU improves to 5-5 on the season and finished in a three-way tie for the tournament title.

ASU's first match on the day saw the Sun Devils face the Weber State Wildcats where the ASU came out swinging as they compiled a .457 hitting percentage in the first game, winning 30-20. The Sun Devils never let up after taking game two 30-20 and game three 30-25. Paige Mittelstaedt led the offense again with 13 kills and Sydney Donahue grabbed 20 digs.

The Sun Devils came out in the second match looking to repeat, but not without a UtahValley rally. UVSC took the first game 30-27 before ASU grabbed the next two 30-28 and 30-25. The Wolverines pushed it to five games, though as they won the fourth 30-26. ASU took home the decider, a quick 15-6 win while Paige Mittelstaedt compiled a career-high 26 kills for a .525 hitting percentage in the match.

The Sun Devils are now 5-5 on the year as they return home to Tempe next weekend to host Tulane, Florida A&M and VCU in the Crowne Plaza/Phoenix Airport Tournament. Action starts next Thursday night with ASU taking on Florida A&M at 7 p.m. in ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
