Cougars Finish in Fifth place at Mean Green Classic

DENTON, Texas - After an entire day of rain, the Washington State men's golf team started the season with a fifth place finish at the Mean Green Classic Tuesday, at the par 72 7,147-yard Lantana County Club.
Sophomores Austin Hurt and Kevin Tucker led the Cougar contingent positioned in a four way tie at 14th place. Sophomore Nick Grigsby, playing as an individual, also finished the tournament in a tie for 14th. All three men tallied scores of 144.
Freshman Nick Ellis ended the tournament tied for 36th and only four strokes behind his top teammates. Senior Jordan Mason and Freshman Xavier Dailly finished in a tie for 42nd and round out the Cougar scoring squad. Freshman Dustin Poe, also playing as an individual, finished at a tie for 58th.
The Cougar men came into the final day of play in a tie for seventh place. Despite the weather conditions, the team persevered and moved up two spots to end their first tournament with a combined score of 584, good for fifth overall.
The men will be back in action Monday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Corvallis, Ore., to compete in the Giustina Memorial.
