No. 8 Huskies Sweep Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior outside hitter Stevie Mussie had 14 kills and 13 digs to lead the No. 8 Washington volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of host Jacksonville in the Northern Florida/Jacksonville Classic on Friday night. The Huskies won 30-20, 30-17, 30-21, and moved to 10-0 on the season with the win. Washington is now 2-0 in the UNF/JU Classic, after beating the other tournament host, Northern Florida, 3-0, last night.
Mussie led a balanced offensive attack for UW, as four players reached double digits in kills. Mussie's 14 kills led all players, while senior All-American Christal Morrison added 13 kills and five total blocks. Also for the Huskies, freshman Becky Perry and junior Jessica Swarbrick added 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
Washington, which hit .339 for the match, racked up 56 kills as a team, and limited the Dolphins to just a .074 hitting mark and 27 kills. Three Huskies hit over .300 during the match, led by Perry, who it .500. Swarbrick finished the night with a .444 hitting clip, while Morrison hit .324.
Despite the lopsided scores, Jacksonville gave UW problems throughout the three games. In the first game there were four ties before late in game the Dolphins took a 19-18 lead on a service ace by Abby Gruenbacher. Washington responded, though, scoring 12 of the last 13 points, highlighted by four kills from Morrison, to take the 30-20 win.
In the final game, the Dolphins held an early 6-4 lead, and later trailed by just one point, 19-18, but Washington scored 11 of the game's 14 final points for the 30-21 victory.
Sara Bendorf led Jacksonville with 11 kills, while Hannah Munneke added 27 assists and teammate Michelle Walroth had a match-high 14 digs.
The Huskies finish the UNF/JU Classic tomorrow with a match against New Orleans at 8 a.m. PT. The Privateers improved to 6-5 earlier today with a sweep of Northern Florida.
