Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel fired a 1-under 71 to pace the No. 4 USC women's golf team in the first round of the first event of the 2007-2008 fall schedule at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on Friday (Sept. 14) at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

USC is tied for eighth with a combined 3-over 291. No. 2 Arizona State is in first at 8-under.

Schreefel birdied three times in a smooth open round to the 2007 season. She is tied for 17th.

Freshmen Lizette Salas and Joanne Lee are among a logjam tied for 35th at 1-over 73. Salas was 3-over after the front 9 but birded the 13th and 14th holes coming in during a strong back 9. Lee was 1-under going out and 2-over coming in.

Sophomore Belen Mozo finished tied for 49th at 2-over 74. She was 2-under after the front 9, but got bogged down toward the end of her round, dropping her off the pace.

Paola Moreno struggled a bit in her first round as a senior, finishing tied for 62nd at 4-over 76. She birdied the 3rd hole but had five bogeys after.

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 15-16), beginning at 8 a.m. (EST) both days. USC is paired with Kentucky and Georgia, starting at 8 a.m. off the first tee.
