Friel Court to Sport New Look for 2007-08 Season
Sept. 19, 2007
PULLMAN, Wash. - When the Washington State University men's and women's basketball teams open up their 2007-08 seasons, Cougar fans will not only see a new coach on the women's sidelines, but they will be treated to a new look at Friel Court.
During the off-season the Friel Court playing surface at Beasley Coliseum was shipped back to the manufacturer, Robbins Sports Surfaces in Ohio to be refurbished. The work took approximately a month and on top of repairing damage on the worn surface, a new design was created to enhance the look of the court.
Although the unique parquet floor remains the same, the design, which was created in-house, boasts a larger WSU logo at center court, the words 'Washington State' on each of the sidelines and 'Cougars' on each of the baselines. Missing from this season's court is crimson paint in the lanes, which was removed for a cleaner look.
'We're excited about the new look,' Associate Director of Athletics for Event and Facility Operations John David Wicker said. 'Not only will the refurbishment help us play on what will feel closer to a new court, but the look is more exciting and more recognizable. We hope that when someone is flipping through the channels on television, they will recognize the court and know they're watching the Cougars.'
Both the men's and women's basketball teams open their respective 2007-08 seasons Friday, Nov. 9 at Friel Court. For more information about tickets contact the WSU Ticket Office at www.wsucougars.com or 1-800-GO-COUGS.
