Sophomore Nicole Pennes led a foursome of Bruin cross country runners at the UCSD Triton Invite on Saturday as she finished seventh in a time of 22:46.8. The Bruins did not field a complete team so there was no team finish.

Also running on Saturday were sophomore Hannah Roeder (24th, 23:50.4), sophomore Gabrielle Bournes (72nd, 25:39.1) and freshman Rosa Magana (76th, 25:42.3).

'Nicole ran a much stronger race today then she did a week ago at the Bill Dellinger Invite,' said head coach Eric Peterson. 'I feel very strongly that Nicole has the ability to run in our top-five. She's had to manage several different illnesses and injuries during her short time at UCLA and it has stalled her progress. But, I can see signs of her confidence improving and her ability to trust her competitive instincts is also improving. It showed today. A top-10 finish for her is a good step forward, and if she is healthy next weekend, we'll add her to the team we are taking to the Pre-National meet, and that's what we were looking for this weekend.'
