It's Madness...'Midnight Madness' At The Galen Center This Friday

LOS ANGELES - The USC men's and women's basketball teams will host 'Midnight Madness' at the Galen Center on Friday (Oct. 12) at 9 p.m. as the teams celebrate the beginning of practice for the 2007-08 seasons. Included in the festivities will be the introductions of the teams by men's head coach Tim Floyd and women's head coach Mark Trakh, a 10-minute scrimmage by both teams, prize giveaways, a basketball fanfest, two-ball challenge, a dunk contest, a fan shooting contest and much, much more!
Among the performers in attendance for the event will be KDAY's Dj X-Man, the Giggle Club and performances by the Trojan Dance Force, Song Girls and USC basketball band. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes, including 2008 USC football season tickets, 2007-08 USC basketball season tickets, free tuition, airline tickets, iPods, , X-Box 360s, Play Station 3s, Disneyland tickets, DVDs, video games and gift certificates.
The event will begin at the conclusion of the USC women's volleyball game vs. Oregon which begins at 7 p.m. The doors will open for Midnight Madness at 8 p.m. with first come, first serve seating. To assure the best seating, fans are encouraged to purchase tickets for the volleyball game ($7).
The USC men's team is coming off a school-record 25-win season and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2006-07. Pac-10 All-Freshman team selection Taj Gibson returns as the Trojans leading returning scorer at 12.2 points per game. Gibson set the USC freshman record for rebounds (321) and blocks (69) last season. Other top returners include sophomore guards Daniel Hackett (5.3 ppg) and Dwight Lewis (5.8 ppg).
USC's top-ranked recruiting class is highlighted by the electric O.J. Mayo, rated the top incoming freshman by several rating services. Joining him will be forward Davon Jefferson, center Mamadou Diarra and guards James Dunleavy, Angelo Johnson and Marcus Simmons.
The Women of Troy basketball team went 17-13 in 2006-07 and graduated five players, but the team returns standout point guard Camille LeNoir, guard Brynn Cameron and center Markisha Lea, all who redshirted last season. This group will join with a solid core of sophomores, including Pac-10 Honorable Mention All-Freshman Morgan Medlock, Aarika Hughes, Hailey Dunham and Heather Oliver, a transfer from Central Arizona JC. Other key contributors returning from last year's team include junior center Nadia Parker and senior forward Simone Jelks. Freshman center Kari LaPlante is expected to help out the Trojans in the frontcourt.
