Ali's Blog: Winning and Halloween ASU Style

Hey Sun Devil Fans!

What a weekend for Sun Devil Volleyball! A clean sweep of the Oregon schools and both of our injured outside hitters are back in action!   What a great win for our program beating the 16th ranked Ducks in their house!  We came out on fire and played our style of volleyball the whole way.   We never let the Ducks dictate how we were playing which in the past has been a problem for us with teams. We dug well, we passed well and our two outside hitters Margie and Sarah Reeves got the job done with 18 kills a piece. Now we hope our football team can do the same on Saturday!!! We can't forget about the Beavers match though too. The team did a great job again of playing our style of volleyball and we were all elated to see Kristin back in the line up. Good job Tray! Needless to say it was a great weekend for our program. We are glad that we came in and got the job done in the Northwest with a clean sweep while keeping our tournament hopes a live at the same time!

This week has been an interesting week of practice.  We have stuck to the basics.   However we added a little spice to practice on Tuesday by playing ultimate frisbee.  I would like to brag and say my team won but we didn't.   I did find out though that, that game is quite a work out.  I also said I would give Rachel a shout out on the blog this week, never have I seen someone so happy that we got new shoes.   Rachel has really narrow feet and our Nike shoes are often too wide for her so she was has been basically playing in this one Nike style of shoe since last spring.   I mean the shoes look horrible they have holes where the toes are the rubber is almost completely gone in the heel and the color of the shoe has changed from a sparkly white to a dingy grey. So you can only imagine how happy the whole team was for her and she was when we got the exact same Nike style in our locker on Monday!   Her locker is next to mine so hopefully we can retire those old shoes now Rach right?

HALLOWEEN! Boy did our team rock our costumes to practice and even our student athlete center. The top five costumes were: #5 Bumble Bee, Marina Mercer, #4 it was a tie between Snow White, Sarah Johnson and Allie Zikesh who was Operation, #3 Care Bear, Margie Giordano, #2 Skier (with skis'), Coco Meek and #1 Staci Smith and guess who she was, Brad Saindon! She even rocked a bike and the backwards hat! Congrats winners and Nator!

This week we are playing the other Northwest schools, Washington and WashingtonState.  The last time we played these schools we swept WashingtonState and got swept by Washington.  This time we are looking to do the same thing to WashingtonState and have an intense battle with Washington.   When we played Washington at Washington it was a very close match with a whole bunch of lead changes and the first game went into extra points.  We expect the same type of match at home on Friday night.  Washington is a great match up for us because they run the same system as us.  So if you want to see a grind of a match because I guarantee it will be, please come and support us on Friday night. We play the Cougars from Washington State on Thursday night as well we can't overlook them even though we swept them the last time we played.   As we have learned in our sport as well as others (football) any team can be beaten on any given night and the Cougars are hungry for their first Pac 10 win so we have to stay on our toes!

So I hope to see you all at Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m. to cheer your Sun Devils on to victory.

Talk to you all soon,
