Srugo, Meister Advance at So. Cal Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES - UCLA men's tennis players Harel Srugo and Nick Meister each won their quarterfinal singles matches on Friday to reach the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.

Srugo, the tournament's top seed, defeated fifth-seeded Tim Kpulun of Concordia, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3. He will face unseeded Omar Altmann of Pepperdine in Saturday's semifinals.

Meister downed Pepperdine's Alex Moreno, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in his quarterfinal encounter. Next up is meeting with third-seeded James Lemke, also of Pepperdine. Lemke downed Bruin sophomore Michael Look, 6-4, 6-3 on Friday.

Second-seeded Mathieu Dehaine, Jeremy Drean and Ahmed Ismail all dropped first-round matches on Thursday. Drean has won two matches in the back draw to reach the semifinals.

Doubles action began on Friday, as the UCLA teams of Meister/Srugo and Drean/Look both took first-round wins. The second round was being played later on Friday.
