Volleyball Swept By No. 4 Washington

TEMPE, Ariz. - Even with Sarah Reaves' 13 kills and Marina Mercer's 39 assists, the Sun Devil Volleyball team had their three-match win streak snapped Friday night as they were swept by the No. 4 Washington Huskies 30-20, 30-22 and 30-25. The Sun Devils fall to 14-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play as the Huskies advance to 22-1 overall and 11-1 in the Pac-10.


Game one saw Sarah Reaves explode for a game-high eight kills, but the effort wasn't enough as Washington compiled a .571 team attack percentage with Jessica Swarbrick going a perfect 6-for-6 as UW took a 30-20 win.


Game two saw another Sun Devils freshman step up as Sara Todorovich had six kills, followed up with Staci Smith's perfect 5-for-5. The Sun Devils' 11 attack errors though paid the price though as UW was able to take the second game from the Devils 30-22 with their highest kill tally coming from Stevie Mussie with four.


Staci Smith and Sara Todorovich combined for 11 kills in game three, but the Huskies overpowered the Sun Devils with Christal Morrison leading the pack with seven kills and a .400 attack percentage. The Sun Devils made a late game surge, scoring five points with the Huskies standing at the cusp of winning with 28 points. The Huskies recouped to finish the game though, taking a 30-25 win and the match.


Next up the Sun Devils will take on their in-state rival, Arizona in part two of the `Duel in the Desert'. The Sun Devils and the `Cats will lock horns this Wednesday, November 7 in Tucson at 7 p.m.
