Cardinal Continues Competition At ASU Thunderbird Invite

STANFORD, Calif.- Senior Whitney Deason and freshman Jennifer Yen will wrap up competition at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on Sunday morning in doubles.

Deason and Yen will face Arizona State's Nadia Abdala and Lauren Megale in the duo's third doubles match of the tournament. Deason and Yen fell to Michigan's Chisako Sugiyama and Tania Mahtani 8-4 on Friday, then suffered a hard-fought 9-8 (6) loss to Michigan's Lindsey Howard and Whitney Taney yesterday.

Deason will also face Brooke Beier of Purdue in a consolation singles match on Sunday after posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mahtani this afternoon.

Yen enjoyed a solid singles run in the main draw, advancing to the semifinals after a 6-3, 6-3 win over Utah's Elizabeth Ferris and a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Arizona State's Micaela Hein.

Meanwhile, senior Jessica Nguyen is finished at the ITA National Indoor Championships. After recording a 6-3, 6-3 win in her opening match, Nguyen dropped a 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-1 decision to California's Susie Babos in the quarterfinals.
