UCLA Rowing Finishes First at Newport Autumn Rowing Festival

Newport Beach, Calif. - The UCLA rowing team's varsity eight and novice eight crews raced to first-place finishes Sunday afternoon at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. Both of UCLA's varsity eight crews finished in the top five in the Bruins' final fall race.

UCLA's varsity eight crew posted a time of 16.31 seconds, as two crews from Stanford finished second and third among a group of 21 boats. The Bruins' second varsity eight boat finished fifth, registering a time of 17.15 seconds, trailing fourth-place UC Davis by 0.02 seconds.

The novice eight crew registered a time of 17:52 seconds, finishing 0.57 seconds ahead of second-place USC. Crews from San Diego State, Stanford and Orange Coast College rounded out the top five in the novice eight race.

UCLA opens its spring season in against Loyola Marymount in Marina del Rey, Calif., on Saturday, March 1.
