Q & A with Justin Holiday

Nov. 5, 2007

Justin Holiday is one of four freshmen who will make their collegiate debuts tonight for Washington. The Huskies host Seattle Pacific in an exhibition game, Monday at 7 p.m.

Holiday spent a few minutes with GoHuskies.com, talking about the early stages of his collegiate career.

GoHuskies.com: How are things going so far?

Justin Holiday: 'Everything's going fine, practice is hard but I mean I like it. It's competitive, unlike high school, so it's fun to play against people that are good all the time.'

GoHuskies: What's the biggest difference so far from high school to college?

JH: 'The speed and strength of the players and you have to be way smarter at this level, you don't have any room for error.'

GoHuskies: Coach Romar has the team work a lot of conditioning, is that significantly more than you're used to?

JH: 'It's a lot more but I'm able to handle it and I like it because that's what I'm able to do is run so if we're in the best shape we can be there will be nobody that can stop us.'

GoHuskies: What would you tell fans to expect from Justin Holiday?

JH: 'I'm going to do whatever it takes to win, whatever I can do to help and that's about it.'

GoHuskies: Is there a player, former or current, that your game is similar to?

JH: 'I've heard some people compare me to former Husky Bobby Jones. That's what people say but I don't know.'

GoHuskies: Did you ever get a chance to see him play?

JH: 'Not really. I played with him a little bit, but it wasn't serious.'

GoHuskies: You played on a team with your brother last year, how has it been now without him?

JH: 'I've played on teams without him before so it's just a different team without him but playing against him was like practice everyday.'

GoHuskies: Who has stood out so far and impressed you on your team?

JH: 'I'd say everyone, all of us are doing pretty well.'

GoHuskies: Is there a particular team you're looking forward to playing?

GoHuskies: Were you a big UCLA fan growing up?

JH: 'No. It's a popular California school, but I never really wanted to go there.'

GoHuskies: So why are you anticipating playing them so much?

JH: My brother's going there. I'm also looking forward to playing USC, another Cali school.'

GoHuskies: What do you think you're going to feel walking out on the Bank of America Arena court for your first game?

JH: 'I'll be really excited. I mean I don't really know what to tell you, I can't wait to just go.'

GoHuskies: You've already put on your Washington jersey for some photo shoots. How did it feel?

JH: 'Great, especially with my name on the back. That's really exciting.'

GoHuskies: Did you have your names on the back of your high school uniforms?

JH: 'No.'

GoHuskies: Why are you wearing number 22.

JH: 'I always likeD this number when I was little, because Emmitt Smith for the Cowboys wore number 22. I always liked him and somehow I figured out that I could wear his number.'

GoHuskies: What number did you wear in High School?

JH: '22.'

GoHuskies: How is school going so far?

JH: 'I'm on top of things. We have good tutors and good advisers.'

GoHuskies: Is college harder, easier, or like you expected?

JH: 'Like I expected. My high school was a prep school so I'm used to it.'

GoHuskies: Does any class stand out to you?

JH: 'Well actually, English is much better than I thought it would be. I never really liked it before but I'm enjoying it now.'

GoHuskies: Is it writing or literature?

JH: 'Composition.'

GoHuskies: Thanks so much for taking time to talk with us Justin.

JH: 'Thank you.'
