Taylor Takes Over As Top Husky At CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - Washington sophomore golfer Nick Taylor shot a 1-over 73 to lead the Huskies during the second round of the CordeValle Collegiate at the CordeValle Country Club, Tuesday, and will enter Wednesday's final round in the top-10.
Taylor's 73 moved him into a tie for ninth place on the individual leaderboard after opening the day tied for 11th. Taylor, tied with seven other golfers, is at even-par 144. He carded a 1-under 71 in Monday's first round and is seven strokes behind leader James Lee of UCLA who is 7-under 137 (65-72).
As a team, the Huskies shot a second-round score of 19-over 379 and are in 11th place at 34-over 754.
UCLA is the team leader with a 10-stroke lead at 5-under 715. Stanford and USC are tied for second at 5-over 725. Just three shots separate the second through fifth place teams as Lamar is fourth at 6-over 726 and Augusta State is fifth at 8-over 728.
Sophomore Darren Wallace wasn't able to duplicate his outstanding first round performance from Monday, carding a 5-over 77 on Tuesday. Wallace shot a 3-under 69 during the opening day. Wallace is tied for 24th and will enter the final round 2-over 146.
Junior John Wise equaled Taylor for the low round of the day for the Huskies, also carding a 1-over 73. His second-round performance was a seven-stroke improvement from his first-round effort. Wise is tied for 54th at 9-over 153.
Other Huskies competing in the tournament are senior Zach Bixler who is tied for 51st (8-over 152), freshman Kevin Spooner who is 67th (19-over 163) and junior Kellen Eakin who is tied for 68th (20-over 164).The final round of the CordeValle Collegiate tees off Wednesday at 8 a.m. PT.
