Ali's Blog: Taking on Stanford and Cal

Nov. 16, 2007

Hey Sun Devil fans!

What a win in Tucson last Wednesday! It felt great to get in and get out. The Wildcat fans are brutal and even did some investigating into our personal lives to try and rattle us but we were not deterred. The games were close but the victory came in three. Now our record against the Cats in the last two years is 4-0.

It was nice to be able to come back to Tempe and have a couple days off to relax and regroup before we hit the final stretch of our season.   This weekend we are traveling on our last Pac-10 road trip to Stanford and Cal.  It is amazing to think that it is our last trip; this season has gone by so fast.   We play Stanford first in Palo Alto.  Stanford is leading the Pac-10 and the last time we faced them the match wasn't very pretty.   We have been watching film and have really keyed in on their hitters tendencies. The match I feel will be a tough one, but I know that when we are playing at the level we should be playing at we can hang with anyone and potentially beat anyone.   The next night we face Cal.  I can't wait to get another crack at the Golden Bears after we let the match at home slip away from us.   They have a powerful outside attack as well but we have shown that we can beat them we just need to sustain it for a long period of time. With four games left in the season we find ourselves searching for at least one more win to make us NCAA Tournament eligible. Two wins this weekend that would be great and put us in great shape for the tournament.

Practice has been intense this week with lots of running.  I think everyone can say at least one part of their body is sore after this week.  We have been doing a lot of drills focusing on transition offense, which is killing the ball after we dig it.   The drills have helped and I can see an improvement already.  You can't have all work with no play though.  We played a friendly game of 'wiffle ball,' seniors, Marina and Margie vs. under classman.  The seniors took a huge lead but the game was tied eventually by some questionable calls by the umpire (Giovanna).   It has been put on hold until next week.  Underclassman you are going down! J

I hope all of you can follow us this weekend on gametracker, and live feed.   The matches start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Go Devils!

Thanks for all of your support!

Talk to you all soon!
