FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Despite a 32-point deficit for having no divers and swimming at 7,000 feet in a short course meter pool, the Washington State swim squad recorded its third dual meet win in as many competitions with a 157-137 victory over Northern Arizona Friday.

The Lumberjacks were in the lead after 14 events but the Cougars swept the top three places in the 200 meter IM and won the 200 meter freestyle relay in 1:47.55 to clinch the victory.

'It took a team effort to pull close to NAU with the diving deficit,' said WSU Head Coach Erica Quam. 'Those last two events were really important for us, and we had great splits across the board.'

Sophomore Shawna Keller led the Cougars' charge with three first-place showings including the 200 meter freestyle (2:08.65), the 200 meter breaststroke (2:40.34) and the 200 meter IM (2:24.49). Following Keller was sophomore Michaela Ahlin with double wins in the 100 meter butterfly (1:04.74) and the 200 meter butterfly (2:23.06).

Also garnering first-places were freshmen Rugile Mileisyte in the 100 meter backstroke (1:05.07) and Sierra Burton in the 100 meter freestyle (58.65) and junior Afton Pickett in the 200 meter backstroke (2:22.89).

WSU also won the other relay, touching first in the 400 meter medley relay in 4:20.46. Mileisyte, Burton and Ahlin were all members of both relay squads.

The Cougars take their 3-0 start into Saturday's dual meet at Arizona State.
