Jones Leads Oregon State to 65-46 Victory

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -Marcel Jones scored 23 points as Oregon State defeated South Carolina-Upstate 65-46 on Sunday for seventh place in the BP Top of the World Classic.

Jones missed just one shot, shooting 10-for-11 from the field, including all three of his 3-point attempts. He added five rebounds.

South Carolina Upstate (0-4), playing its first year in Division I, stayed even with the Beavers in the first half. The lead changed hands five times and the half ended 30-30.

The Spartans' Luke Payne opened the second half with a 3-pointer but Oregon State (1-2) answered with a 26-8 run and built a 56-41 lead behind 14 points by Jones. The Beavers shot 67 percent for the second half.

The Beavers' Roland Schaftenaar led all players with 10 rebounds. Seth Tarver scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Payne was the only Spartan scoring in double figures with 17 points. Bobby Davis had eight rebounds.
