Five Cougars Named All-Academic District VIII

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University placed five players on the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII team, it was announced recently.
Senior quarterback Alex Brink, senior tight end Jed Collins, sophomore offensive tackle Micah Hannam, senior kicker Romeen Abdollmohammadi and senior defensive end Matt Mullennix were each named to the Academic All-District VIII second team.
For Brink the honor marks the third consecutive year in which he earned District VIII accolades, as he was named to the first team in both 2005 and 2006.
Brink, who boasts a 3.55 gpa, was named WSU's Outstanding Male Sport Management Student in 2006-07. This season he has taken over as the Cougars' career passing leader in attempts (1,366), completions (800), yards (10,200) and touchdowns (71). He is also the sixth quarterback in Pacific-10 Conference history to throw for over 10,000 yards and have 70-or-more touchdown passes in a career.
With his 52 receptions this season, Collins, who owns a gpa of 3.41, is the WSU single-season record holder for catches by a tight end. The accounting major has posted two 10-catch games this season and totaled 123 yards against Stanford, both career highs.
Hannam, interested in a degree in civil engineering, has started all 10 games this season at right tackle for WSU and has a gpa of 3.63.
A movement studies major with a gpa of 3.38, Abdollmohammadi has connected on seven consecutive field goals dating back to the California game. His four consecutive field goals against Stanford marked the first time since Nov. 22, 2003 against Washington that a kicker made four consecutive field goals in the same game.
Mullennix has started eight of 10 games this season for the Cougars. The management and operations/psychology major (3.30 gpa) has recorded 26 tackles, including one sack, one tackle for loss and one pass break-up.
The Pacific-10 Conference placed 18 individuals on the first and second teams, with WSU and Stanford each placing a conference-best five players on the lists.
