Final Stats

FREEPORT, Bahamas - Washington State's Colleen Betteridge and Kezia Kelly each scored seven points in a 66-37 loss to Alabama Saturday, in the second round of the Junkanoo Jam at St. George's Gym. The Cougars fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Crimson Tide improved to 1-4.

'I couldn't be more proud of this team right now,' Head Coach June Daugherty said. 'We were undersized and undermanned, but our players never put their heads down and they competed.'

The Cougars led by as many as five points in the first half, but the Crimson Tide closed out the first period on an 8-1 run, and opened the second half with a two-point lead (18-16).

WSU reclaimed the lead at the 18-minute, 30-second mark after scoring the second half's first four points. But Alabama went on a run once again (14-2) to take a 10-point lead at 32-22. The Crimson Tide held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

Freshmen Katie Calderwood and Jasmine Williams and junior Katie Appleton each recorded three steals, as WSU forced the Crimson Tide into 30 turnovers.

'Defensively we did a great job,' Daugherty said. 'Unfortunately we ran out of bodies in the second half. But I am really proud of our players.'

Williams and junior center Heather Molzen led the Cougars with five rebounds each, with four of Williams' boards coming on the offensive end.

After playing each of its last three games on the road, WSU returns to Friel Court for a four-game home stand, beginning with Idaho, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m.
