USC Women Top Utah 62-45

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Morghan Medlock scored 13 points and had 8 rebounds to lead the USC women's basketball team to a 62-45 non-conference victory over Utah on Monday (Dec. 3) before 422 fans in the Galen Center.
The Women of Troy improved to 4-2, while the Utes had their four-game winning snapped and fell to 5-3 in their worst loss of the season.
Morgan Warburton led Utah with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Kalee Whipple added 12 points and 6 rebounds.
The Women of Troy had a decisive rebounding edge, 42 to 30. USC shot just 38.6% from the field, but held the Utes to 30.6%.
USC broke open a tight game by going on a 15-0 run in a 5-minute span late in the first half to go up 32-12. The Utes, who scored the half's final 3 points to close the gap to 32-15 at intermission, shot just 25.0% in the first half and got outrebounded by a 22-11 margin. Parker had 8 of her 9 first-half points during that 15-0 blitz.
Utah cut it back to a seven-point game on back-to-back 3-pointers from Morgan Warburton, making it 37-28 at the 13-minute mark. The Utes got within six on a three from Leilani Mitchell, but the Women of Troy slipped in 3-pointers from Heather Oliver, a fast break score from Aarika Hughes and then another three from Hughes to pull ahead 45-31 with 9:40 on the clock. That run ballooned to 12-0 before the Utes managed a bucket with 8:10 left to make it 49-33 USC. A shot clock buzzer-beater from Morghan Medlock pushed USC up 51-35. Simone Jelks became the 10th Trojan to score when she struck from the paint with 6:10 remaining, giving USC a 54-35 advantage. She did it again a minute later, pushing the Trojans to their biggest lead of the night at 56-35.
USC next goes on a 2-game road trip, meeting Nebraska on Saturday (Dec. 8) and then Michigan on Monday (Dec. 10), before returning to the Galen Center to host Pepperdine on Dec. 15.
