Walker Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

BERKELEY - California forward/center Ashley Walker has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 26-Dec. 2, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Walker led the Golden Bears in scoring last week, averaging 20.7 points per game, including her Pac-10 leading fifth and sixth double-doubles of the year. The junior earned a spot on the Contra Costa Times Classic all-tournament team after Cal's 67-59 win over the No. 18 Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday.
The junior from Modesto Calif., also led the Golden Bears in wins over Loyola Marymount as well as Saint Mary's in the first game of the tournament. Against LMU, Walker posted 25 points and 10 rebounds and tallied another double-double against SMC as she dropped 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Walker leads the Pac-10 in scoring (21.0 ppg) as well as rebounding (11.9 rpg). She also ranks second in blocked shots (2.25 bpg).
Cal heads to the East Coast this weekend as the Bears take on Princeton on Saturday, Dec. 8, and Rutgers on Monday, Dec. 10.
This is the fourth Pac-10 Player of the Week award of Walker's career and the 28th all-time for the Bears. Walker is the second Cal player to receive the award four times in her career. The first was Jennifer Bennett, who received the accolade four times during the 1986-87 season.
